Osteopathy is about more than bones. It’s a gentle but effective manual medicine that considers your whole health. We recognise the important link between how the muscles, bones, joints, nerves, organs, circulation and fascia all work together for optimal health and well-being.
Osteopathy is natural and safe for everybody from babies to elderly people. It’s well established, recognised and trusted as a type of primary healthcare that diagnoses, treats and heals a wide range of painful conditions. Osteopaths go to university for four years to learn how to examine you in a similar way to doctors and physios. That means we can tell if your condition is safe to treat or if you need to see a doctor.
Most patients come to us because something hurts – and they’ve often found other types of treatment haven’t helped. Sore backs, tight muscles, stiffness and inflammation – these are all your body’s way of flagging injury or issues. We help you get back to pain-free functioning so you can carry on doing the things you love.
Pain relief and recovery
Our bodies are amazing. They carry us through life, allowing us to do the things we love. When there’s a problem, they tell us with pain signals – and they can heal themselves.
Osteopaths are experts at reading bodies and helping that natural healing process. We look at the whole picture – your lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, activity, mental and physical stress. We then examine your body, find out what’s causing your pain and treat it using manual therapy such as joint manipulation, massage and Western acupuncture.
Exercises for pain relief
After your treatment, we support you to help your body heal through simple exercises, movement and stretches. You can join classes in our studio or use our private gym. Working together, we can not only heal your pain but also stop it from coming back.
From back pain to stress
What kinds of symptoms can we treat? Here are a few examples.
Lower back pain
Back pain, especially lower back pain, can be debilitating and scary. It can be caused by all sorts of things from bad posture, falls and lifting injuries to pregnancy, overtraining and old age. It can radiate into your buttocks, pelvic area and legs (sciatica) and can stop you in your tracks.
We help you out of pain through kind reassurance, hands-on treatment and individualised prescriptive exercise. When necessary, we’ll also guide you to make positive lifestyle changes to stop symptoms from returning.
Treating repetitive strain injuries
Repetitive actions in both work and exercise can lead to developing an injury such as tendonitis.
We help identify the movement that is causing your symptoms, treat the sore muscles and stiff joints and provide evidenced based advice and exercises to help you recover pain free normal function.
Treating stress
Stress is a major cause of pain throughout the body. Symptoms such as eczema, headache, jaw pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and indigestion can all be attributed, in part, to stress. From physical stress from an altered posture to emotional stress, it can prevent us from sleeping or being able to switch off our minds – and this has an impact on how well our bodies repair and recover.
Osteopathy helps to relax the body by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (the system involved in rest and repair) while also encouraging your body’s ability to repair itself by improving blood supply, waste removal and
nerve flow to all the tissues in the body (eg organs, bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons).

I was not happy just suppressing the pain with tablets and sought to find out if there was an alternative therapy. My daughter had been going to see Rachel at Nimble Osteopathy for a number of years so I decided to give them a try. After 3 sessions of massage and acupuncture with Zac at Nimble the pain had completely disappeared. With further sessions my back and shoulders felt less tense and there has been no return of the head pain. I would highly recommend a visit to Nimble Osteopathy.
